The Ketu South Municipal Secretariat of the National Service Scheme had a successful Orientation for its National Service Personnel (NSP) and NASPA Elections on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

In attendance were the Coordinating Director, Gilbert Avemegah of the Municipal Assembly, the Public Relations Officer of GES in the Municipality, Mr. Charles Dorkenu, Ho Municipal Manager of the National Service Scheme, Mr. Daniel Dag-Sosu and NASPA Executives.

The NSP were taken through their responsibilities and were challenged to put in hard work, be committed and dedicated to duty. Personnel were made to contribute positively to work and the nation for that matter throughout their one year mandatory national service.

The Municipal Manager of the Scheme, Mr. Hope Yevoo, welcome all national service personnel to the Municipality especially the ones who have found themselves on the soil of Ketu South for the very first time. He encouraged the personnel to wholeheartedly accept their postings and not to see their placement as a punishment but an opportunity to gain valuable skills and experiences that will contribute to their future success.

Mr. Gilbert Gemegah advised the NSP to build network with their colleagues and superiors at their places of posting and add value to themselves through the pursuit of further studies, online courses and attending seminars to acquire knowledge for the future. He also took his time to educate the service personnel on the structure of the Assembly Municipal Assembly.

The Ketu Municipal Public Relations Officer of GES admonished all personnel especially personnel deployed to the education sector to be good examples and mentors to the learners at their various schools of posting.

The Ho Municipal Manager of the Scheme took the NSP through their duties and what is expected of them as service personnel. All NSP were well motivated and gingered up to put up their maximum at their various places of posting.

National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) Election was also held on the same day to elect leaders that shall advocate and seek the welfare of their colleague NSP.

The election was only held to elect the President of the of the Association since the other portfolios went unopposed. Mr. Charles Epiphany Ativor came top after the elections, hence, duly elected as the new President of the Association.

All the other elected executives together with the president elect were sworn into office by the outgoing President, Mr. Lord Dotsey Hammond.

The municipal assembly with some pressure group in the municipal organise a clean-up exercise where they clean beaches within the locality. The exercise was necessitated by the urge of the MCE to make the municipality the cleanest among others.

The farmers day 2023 celebration of the Ketu South Municipal was held at Wudoaba Basic school which was graced by the Hon. Maxwell Lugudor (MCE), Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie (MP), Mr. Gilbert Avemegah (MCD) and traditional authorities.

The celebration witnessed a display of culture and the exhibition of staple food crops and animals produced in the Municipality. The Hon. MCE, Maxwell Lugudor was happy to be part of the success made by farmers over the years for their invaluable contributions they make to feed the Nation and sustain our lives. He was pleased to celebrate farmers and revealed that he wish farmers are celebrated everyday. He congratulated the award winners of this year’s farmers day celebration and urged all farmers to continue to work hard and that government is always supporting the Agricultural sector and his outfit is working hard to ensure that farmers in the Municipality are supported technically and financially to boost Local Economic Development. He added that plans are underway to boost coconut production.

As part of activities to empower women in Ketu South Municipality to become more self-reliant, the agric department of the Ketu South municipal organised training activities for all women in the municipality on alternative livelihood enhancement to equip the women with more carrier skills like liquid soap making, coconut ice cream making, fortification of gari with ginger and coconut, among other skills.

The training took place in Gbedzekope, a community in the Ketu South Municipality.

The Municipal Environmental Health unit embarked on the Third Quarter, pushing, leveling and compacting of solid waste final disposal site at Aflao Akplepkui to ensure a well managed waste disposal site of the area.

The Ketu South Municipal Aseembly held it Departmental and Zonal council hearing for 2023 work plans and budget.

The hearing took place at the municipal assembly’s conference room from 11-13th October 2022.

The MCE, Hon. Maxwell K. Lugudor and some Heads of Department of the Ketu South Municipal Assembly visited the Gakli community as part of Assembly’s community engagement activities to discuss critical development issues. Various stakeholders including Chiefs, market women representatives, the security agencies among others were present to grace the occasion.

Among issues discussed, were sanitation, smuggling of goods such as cement and rice transported illegally from Ghana to Togo and vice versa through various illegal route, economic trade with Cedi and the CFA, property rate and building permits.

The MCE stated that a police station will be constructed in the community in 4 months to curb insecurity issues in and around the community. He added that in few weeks a site possession will be conducted to make way for the contractor to commence work. On sanitation issues, he said, rubbish containers will be supplied to the community to address the unhygienic menace. Again, the MCE, promised that in the future, the ‘Gakli Fine Boy’ Market will be expanded and together with the construction of their roads.

The Queen mother of the market expressed her joy for the police station because it will curb the issue of theft and robbery in the market and community.

The Assembly man of the area disclosed that the community will appreciate a CHPS compound or hospital in the community to help address their health needs. His closing remarks were brief and He thanked all present that graced the occasion.
